A WALK THROUGH FEROZ SHAH KOTLA AND KHOONI DARWAZA........

On 5th November 2011,we went to Lodi Garden for yet another Heritage Walk.It was organised by SRDC.As usual Dr.Navina Jafa, our heritage consultant gave us lot of information about our Heritage, culture and beliefs. Khooni Darwaza, also referred to as Lal Darwaza or Kabuli Darwaza, on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. It is one of the 13 surviving gates in Delhi. It was just south of the fortified Old Delhi constructed by Sher Shah Suri. She said that ISLAM means THE WAY TO PEACE. Delhi has been choosen as the capital for many times by many leaders. It is because it has good fertile soil, trade root and it is south of himalayas. There are forty masjids and seventeen gates in Delhi. Also she gave us more information about Feroz shah Kotla. The Feroz Shah Kotla was originally a fortress built by Sultan Ferozshah Tughlaq to house his version of Delhi city called Ferozabad. A pristine polished sandstone pillar from the 3rd century B.C. rises from the palace's crumbling remains, one of many pillars left by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka. It was a nice and interesting walk. The way Dr. Jafa use to explain is very convincing. We are thanking SRDC who conducts such walks which enhences our knowledge on heritage and culture.
